Linda Lewis – where to start? One of the most culturally significant British performers of her generation – she was already mixing soul, folk, jazz, funk and reggae as early as 1970, when girls weren’t yet aloud – she broke the mould of what a black girl from East London could and couldn’t do. Of course it didn’t hurt that she happens to possess the finest voice to have graced these shores in a long, long time. A born performer and a fabulous friend. Happy birthday, baby…
